Best Buy and TiVo Form Strategic Alliance to Transform the Home Entertainment Experience

TiVo Inc. announced it has entered into a strategic alliance with Best Buy Co., Inc. designed to transform the digital home entertainment experience. The alliance seeks to drive greater distribution of TiVo(R) products and its user experience, and to provide Best Buy with a digital platform in the home to strengthen its customer relationships. For Best Buy, the alliance is a major step intended to accelerate its evolution in digital media and better serve the needs of its customers. As part of the agreement, TiVo and Best Buy plan to investigate development of a unique user interface for TiVo DVRs purchased at Best Buy which would provide Best Buy a platform to more effectively market its digital content services, to regularly offer consumers trusted advice and guidance on the digital home experience, and to provide an ongoing dialogue with customers about Best Buy's various retail offerings.

GE Launches Global HDTV Joint Venture

GE today announced the formation of General Displays & Technologies LLC (GDT), a new joint venture with Tatung Company, a global leader in display technologies. GDT will design, market and service GE-branded HDTVs to deliver the best home high definition video, audio and Internet experience. The first series of premium product offerings will be available to consumers in Spring 2009.

DisplaySearch Reports Flat Q2'08 Plasma Panel Results as 1080p Shipments Surge 89% Q/Q

Wal-Mart Boosts Volume of Blu-ray and Hi Def Among More New Electronics Enhancements

Wal-Mart announced today that it has completed a redesign of its consumer electronics department in stores nationwide, adding hundreds of new consumer electronics models and features. In addition to new product assortment, recent design changes intend to help Wal-Mart customers also better understand the uses and options of many new products in the market, such as the addition of a "hi-def Blu-ray experience area" in 1,200 of its stores.
