HDTV Almanac - Go with the Flo
by Alfred Poor on November 4, 2009 Category: General Interest

I’ve mentioned Qualcomm’s Flo TV before, but now you have a new way that you can get television programming as you go about your daily routine. Chrysler announced last week that it will be offering this mobile TV service as an option in most of its cars, starting next month. For $629 (plus dealer installation charges), you’ll get up to 20 channels. And the subscription fee for the first year will be included. After that, you’ll have a monthly charge that has not yet been finalized but is expected to start at $9 a month. So now you’ll be able to get news, sports, entertainment, and more in your Detroit chariot.

The company press release did not describe any display components, but presumably this will be used for rear-seat passenger entertainment systems. It will be interesting to watch and see if this gains any traction as an add-on feature. So many car miles are driven without any passengers that it may not have that much appeal. I guess the question is whether or not DVDs alone are sufficient to keep the rug rats in the back seats occupied.
