HDTV Almanac - We Have Our HDTVs! (Well, Almost Half)
by Alfred Poor on December 1, 2009 Category: General Interest

A new report by Leichtman Research Group indicates that nearly half of U.S. households have at least one HDTV. The 46% level of HDTV penetration is roughly double what it was two years ago. The fact that prices have fallen more than 20% a year for the past two years doesn’t hurt either.

According to the report, if the annual household income is more than $75,000 then the HDTV penetration rate increases to 61%. That’s hardly surprising, except maybe that it isn’t higher. I am a little surprised that nearly 30% of households with income under $30,000 also have at least one HDTV.

And according to the report, there are at least 14% of HDTV owners who think that they’re watching HD content even though they don’t have HD service. Hey, it used to be 25%, so I guess this is progress.

The bottom figure says it all. 14% still think they are watching hidef without the service . Personally, sales numbers without the coressponding numbers of settop boxes sold to go with the tv is not that meaningful to others than the manufactuers.

We need informed customers who understand that buying hd tv without the box is a nice video monitor & 42" is a designers choice....

If you are to get Hd over OTa,Fibre optic service or Qtuner that can descamble or effective cable card or or legal Full hd streaming or just watch Blu Ray , then you do not need a set top box....
