Connecting a suitable HDTV antenna to panasonic PT-AE700U

Post by mshidhaye »

My zip code is : 29650

I own a Panasonic projector model : PT-AE700U.
It is truly a great projector. I was wanting to know which HDTV set-to antenna I need to buy in order to receive local, on-the-air HDTV network broadcasts.

This projector has component video and HDMI input.

Thanks in advance.

I'd say a Channel master 4228 with a 7777 pre-amp and rotator would be the best, mounted as high as possible. All of your stations are UHF with the exception of WNTV-DT (PBS) on channel 9 but you can also get WUNF-DT (PBS) from Asheville on channel 25.

Your results will depend on the signal strength of the stations (some DTV stations are not at full power yet) and the terrain between you and stations (flat - good, hills - bad). Also the higher your elevation the better.

Thanks for the reply.
But how about the connectivity issue ?
The antenna is a coax and my projector needs component,HDMI or S-Video and a RCA 75 Ohm input ..

Is there any converter available for this ?

Thanks again.

Oh my. I just assumed you forgot to mention the OTA receiver. My bad.

Your projector is just a display device. It's not a tuner. You will need a separate HD OTA only or Satellite receiver which the antenna will plug into and then out of the receiver into the projector via component, DVI or HDMI.

How are you currently receiving and displaying TV signals?

Thanks again.

Currently, I am only watching DVD movies via the component video input connections.

Looks like I need to get a HDTV tuner and a HDTV antenna.

My local cable is Charter. And they offer HDTV. May be I should just get that since I already have Charter for my regular TV. I think they offer HDTV for additional $10.00 per month..
This will eliminate the need for a tuner and the antenna, right ?

Cheers.

Yes, Charter will provide the HD tuner, if available.

They will provide the tuner and maybe even a PVR. That's the easiest way to go, but be aware that they may not have every HD local channel in your area. Check with your local Charter office to find out for sure. If they don't have a local digital channel that you really want you'll have to get an antenna and OTA receiver - the cable HD receiver will not receive any OTA signals.

DirecTV will also have HD local channels this summer for the 12 major markets if you're not happy with Charter.

Congrats on the PT-AE700U. I just bought that same unit a couple weeks ago. It is the best front projector out there for 2 grand. aKirby is right about the antenna. I have the CM-4228 and the CM-7777 is the best pre-amp if your running 2 separate cables. If you are running 1 cable for both Sat and OTA (via 2 diplexers) then you will want the CM Spartan 3 model 0265DSB amp. The CM4228 antenna can only be matched by the DB-8 from antennasdirect. It is essentially the same type of bow-tie 8 bay antenna.
