I have to laugh every time I see one of these articles where cablevision claims the lead in providing HD content and service. There is absolutely no way that cablevision (or any other cable company that I know of) provides the number of HD stations (real, not imaginary) that satellite provides. I have had Ecostar (Dish Network) HD service for about nine years and it has always given me many, many more stations (to this day!) than our local cablevision - not to mention a far cleaner, clearer and more reliable signal. Cable companies must be reaching new levels of creative accounting to still claim that their HD service leads in any category. I dropped cable like a hot potato (after 25 years!) almost a decade ago and would never go back. Their poor performance in the area of stations, equipment, customer service and general knowledge is more than enough to keep me from recommending cable to anyone who can get some sort of satellite service.
FIOS is a totally different thing. I'm eagerly awaiting the addition of FIOS TV to my area in a couple of months (I already have the very excellent FIOS Internet service). Finally, cable will have some ground based competition and I hope, for cable subscribers' sakes, that this forces the industry to wake up and start paying attention to the product and to the customer.
The only "leading" that cable offers to customers, in my opinion, is "on."
