New Kaleidescape Movie Players Produce Stunning Video Quality From Ordinary DVDs, Provide Viewing Experience That Rivals Blu-ray

Kaleidescape, Inc., the market leader in entertainment servers, today introduced the 1080p Player and 1080p Mini Player - two Movie Players that produce stunning video quality from ordinary DVDs, providing a viewing experience that rivals Blu-ray. The new family of Players makes it possible to enjoy the Kaleidescape Experience even with DVDs and CDs that have not been imported into a Kaleidescape System, and a new form factor makes it possible to place a 1080p Mini Player anywhere in the home.

OK, so the 1080p Player is $4,295 and the 1080p Mini Player is $2,995.

Tell me how that's going to give me any better picture than I'm getting from my $300 upconverting HD DVD player, or from my $200 upconverting OPPO.

If this isn't any better that what the above two units can produce ... what is the added value in buying the Kaleidescape unit? Is it the "importing" feature, the movie library software, what? I can buy software for $40 that will allow me to "import" my DVD content and save off the movie-only to my library. And I can use my Xbox 360 or Apple TV to browse through this content on my TV.

I guess what I'm saying is that the technology and software is out there now where you can do this same thing for less than $500 in equipment and software. And you don't necessarily have to have a degree in computer science anymore to do it.

Perhaps they are just catering to those who have more money than they know what to do with.

Can anyone enlighten me?

With prices like that they'd have to give 3D and the actors be right in the room with me!
I'm waiting for BluRay prices to drop before "upgrading"!!!

It's all about media streaming A/V for your whole house and portable player (like ipod). Go check the site.

As for the claims... marketing hype to the nth degree... It hit my videophile integrity of claims nerve too Rolling Eyes and that how I ended up going to the site.
