I have a WD 57731 and yesterday the screen went to this. It has stripes like a venetian blind and it looks like you are watching with xray vision.

Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks, Richard

Tried the resets to no avail, so called Mitsubishi. They called a local service center and the tech diagnosed a bad optical engine. $1400. to repair. TV is 23 months old, no extended warranty.

Called MDEA back and they told me to send them the estimate. I did, along with a sternly worded letter and copies of the warranty extensions they have granted on my model number for the thermal sensor and the optical engine extension on the 73 series tv's. Then proceeded to call them everyday since checking up on things. They told me this evening that they will warranty 75% of this repair on my set, so am somewhat releived. A $200 repair is a whole lot easier to swallow than $1400.

I was royally pissed about this but was always calm and patient with the customer service reps on the phone, but did give them the impression that I was not going away. (Better not get too giddy yet, I still have a worthless black box sitting in my front room). I hope all goes well from here on out. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks again,

Dave Hohn

25% of $1400 is $350, not $200. Did they give you the $200 figure? Also, did they say why they are giving you 75%?

Your model is not in there nor are you having that problem. This is one of the difficulties of officially announcing such things - they and the service centers get a boatload of non-related requests. Glad to hear they will help out! :)
