Connecting Blu-ray and DISH DVR to Receiver with HDMI, Do I Need Optical Digital Too?

A reader with an HDMI-switching home theater receiver, Blu-ray Disc player and DISH Network HD receiver wonders whether he'll still need to use an optical digital cable for audio if he connects these devices to his system using HDMI.
