Sony LCD KDL-46XBR4 - Half Of Picture Dark And Flashing

I have a 2 year old Sony KDL 46xBR4. When the set is turned on half of the picture is dark and flashing. This lasts for 10-15 minutes, then it fixes itself, and is fine until it is turned off.

HOPEFULLY - you DID also purchase the available ( 5 years ) 100%, In-home Extended Warranty at the same time?
By-the-way . . . . failing that you did { purchase any warranty} .... just Never turn off that TV ! . . . use the mute on the Audio (Surround System or TV) whenever you go to bed ... will NOT harm the set !

Is this problem the backlight, and could the average long time in bussiness repair shop fix the problem?

While not turning the TV off is one solution, it's not a
green solution at all and you are eating up serviceable hours, lifespan, by doing so.
You are looking at a repair of the back lighting system and I suspect it will eventually shutdown because typically these circuits are looking for a specific power draw, not too much and not too little, to conclude if the system is working properly and can run safely.
