Speaker Cables

I hate to open this can o' worms again, but I just found some great speaker cables. Hey, I tried to be objective. I listened to both sides of the fence here. Those that disdain all the hype and those that swear by big $$ cables. I even went out to Home Depot and bought a 50 ft 10awg extension cord and outfitted them with bananas. You know what? They sounded pretty damn good, at least as good (or better) as some $200-$400 brand names like Cardas and Synergistic reasearch that I've tried out, especially nice on the bottom end.

But I happened onto a brand called Kubala-Sosna that was featured in a number of demo rooms at the recent HES in NYC. They offered a 30 day trial period and I fell in love with them. First speaker wire I ever bought new. What a difference! I'm convinced now that proper cables make a difference with matched components, and with these K/S cables hooked up to my Manley Stingray tubed integrated and my Sony XA777ES makes things REALLY sweet! I don't even miss my failed attempt at multi channel anymore. And I don't feel the need to mod my sacd player anymore. Not yet, anyway. :)

They have four or five different models. I chose the "Fasication" cables which is their middle of the line model. I think they list for about $1150 for an 8ft pair, but I paid $850 from Bob at Rhapsody Music in NYC. You can go to the Kubala-Sosna site for a price list and a dealer in your area. http://www.kubala-sosna.com

People are raving about the top of the line "Emotion" but that's out of my reach. These were too actually, but I couldn't resist. Like I said I NEVER buy new because used cables are just as good and are a fraction of the new price, but you can't find these anywhere except new. I'll tell you one thing about this company, they do the right thing. I had to wait an usuallly long time for my pair, about a month and half, because of a backorder for spades and they sent me a free $500 Fascination power cord for nothing because of all the hassle. Of course I helped it along with plenty of complaining emails. :) Stll, that's a pretty good deal. Hope this helps.

I would have stuck with the 50 ft 10awg extension cord...To me, anything over 50 bucks is insanity...

I guess if you mainly use your rig to watch movies the ext. cords would be just fine. They even sounded decent enough in discriminating 2 ch, listening. But these expensive cables blew those away in terms of detail, smoothness and clairty. So I wouldn't be swayed by their price tag, I had a buddy swap out both sets several times and I was literally blindfolded. I really wanted to know if it was a psycholigical thing or not, and every time I picked the Kubala-Sosna cables. One thing is for sure though, DON'T listen to any expensive gear. Ignorance is bliss, and way easier on your wallet too. But once you get an ear full.........

Glad to hear you have found synergy nirvana :D

Unfortunatley there is not the first piece of technical info on these cables just like the rest in the industry...
