There are two firmware files for this player to tackle two different problems.

Originally this player shipped with the HD component outputs active for 720P and 1080I. About mid 2004 the firmware was changed defeating this capability with Hollywood movies. If you just recently purchased this player for this application and find you have this problem the solution is to install the old firmware.

The original firmware crushes peak whites when using the DVI output. If you are using this player in a DVI application and the HD component outputs are still working with Hollywood movies then you need the new firmware which corrects this DVI error.

Both are available and described at the Keohi HDTV website.

Choose which firmware file you wish to install and download it to your PC. Rename this file lgromout.bin, it must be all lower case and copy that to a CDR. Finalize the CDR as a standard CD-ROM accessible by all computers. Insert it into the player and a screen will eventually pop up; follow the directions.

Your comment about the calibration of an analog input for this player if it is also to use a HD cable/sat box made me ask myself if there were many HD ready sets that didn't have 2 independant stes of component inputs, (mine's a 2001and it does but no DVI).

As you point out it would be a pain
if there were only one. Probably the newer sts with lots of DVI and HDMI might restrict them to 1 or maybe none, (if we want to scare everyone)

Actually regarding the DVI inputs I read somewhere that on properly calibrated sets it has not been proven that it supplies better PQ at short cable lengths. Perhaps you could comment on that.

Since many Flagship A/V reievers are now putting scaling to 568,1080i and 720p through component it appears that HDCP compliance is optional for analog inputs.

The other thing I was thinking regarding this player was that (as you pointed out) HDCP dnrezed any attempt to scale normal dvds or basically 99% of the type of media we would want to scale why would anyone want to use it anyway unless perhaps the player was 40ft from the display unit and an all digital path has less chance of degradation.

One las thing. My brother has one of the first Tosh rptvs with DVI and I understand that it is not HDCP compliant. Do you think this player would scale to 720p which is it's scan rate without issue as the LG version in Toronto has dropped in price to $238cdn.
