The video quality is wonderful yet there is a big problem . Can capture video from vcr to harddrive using composite out from vcr to composite video in of card using apporiate ati cables. After editing the material , wanted to record output back to vcr using composite out from ati card to composite in of vcr. After many tries , all i got was viewing the edited material on computer monitor and nothing but blue screen on vcr indicating no signal to vcr.

the computer has asus p4r800vm motherboard with 2.8 mghz intel pentium 4 processor and 512 mg of ram
with Lacie graphics grade monitor. The vcr is inexpensive jvc.

From my unstanding of owners manual , this can be done.

Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated?

thanks

Your question got my attention. I use a Mac G5 for video editing so I can't address your problems directly and I output video as a Firewire DV stream and use a Sony MiniDV Walkman for hardware conversion from digital to S-video output to a Sony 20 inch TV along with R/L audio also to analog VCR tape. ( My analog TV mixer has dual S-video outputs) This is not the same as what you are doing.

However I looked up the specs ln the ATI 9800 and if I read it rightyour 9800 card has an S-video output, with an an adapter for composite output.

Have your tried just hooking a TV set with a S-Video cable directly to the card and get a picture? If you can get the card to display on a TV set the same content as on your computer monitor you can record it on a VCR. If the S- video analog output is not working you may have a tech support issue with ATI. In order to do what you want there must be a digital back to analog converter in the card that is active. This might also be a driver issue. And do the specs say the S-video output is active while also displaying on the computer monitor- maybe it is either computer monitor or S-video but not both at the same time?

Good luck
