Hello everyone.

I just bought the samsung Hd960 DVD player and th PQ is pretty amazing even though I'm looking at 480P.

The question I have is , I have an older HDTv that only has component inputs of 480i/480p/1080i.

So I was wondering if anyone had any reviews about this dvd player or any workarounds (Remote hacks) that I could utilize my 1080i input over components.

Thanks 8)

Rod- The HD960 supports component video. In theory, upconverting to 1080i does not improve the image resolution. In practice, the upconversion will hide the scanning lines and reduce flicker. While these are small improvements, they are real. If I were you I would do it. (Your question seems to imply that there is something preventing you from doing this. But I see no obstacle.) -Ken

There is also the advantage of bypassing your internal scaling to match the native resolution of your HD display, 720P or1080I/540P, to reduce artifacts.

As for bypassing that which you are not supposed to... I don't have a clue. If you want that then consider buying an overseas upconverting player from the Chinese, internet only. All players destined for the US market will not allow it.

Get a new HDTV that has a HDMI connection(s). No pain, no gain.

OK Folks, I have also purchased this DVD player (Samsung HD960) and just to see how it performs with the best dvd's I also purchased an HD dvd. When I put it into the player, it just sat there and would not play. The unit plays all my other dvd's without issue it just will not play my very first HD dvd. Any ideas what the issue might be?

The Samsung HD960 is an upconverting DVD player. It is not an HD-DVD player. Your HD-DVD will only play in an HD-DVD player.

One would have thought that the HD prefix would have been a good indication that the unit would play HD-DVD's. So does the Samsung HD1080 have the capability to play the HD-DVD's or does it just do a slightly better job of up-converting? So who has true HD-DVD players now?

The Samsung HD1080 is also an unconverting DVD player. To see what might be available in HD-DVD players take a look here:
