We are using a Comcast digital cable box in the Seattle area and there are firewire and USB ports on the back of the box and I've heard you can hook up additional hard drives, but Comcast claims that feature isn't supported and won't give us any information on making it work. Of course this is the same company that didn't include any instruction manual with the box either so??

Anyone have any idea how to do this and it would also be nice to be able to transfer recorded shows onto a hard drive to use on another system or on our computer too.

thx..jw

The USB port is disabled except that it is powered. The external SATA port is disabled due to a software condition that is slated to be fixed sometime next year. You can download, in real time, off of you STB hard drive to a PC. You have to do some things first. This website will give you the particulars.
