Does anyone have a definitive answer regarding the Pioneer 74 series and 1080p?

I read that there is possibly a new firmware update that addresses 1080p on the 74 series, but nothing definitive.

What is your 1080P problem? HDMI since inception can pass it.
It is unfair to HDMI that many manufacturers were blaming the unavailability of the HDMI 1.3 spec for their inability to accept 1080p on their 1080p TV sets, when actually even the version 1.0 spec was capable to handle such resolution, obviously the proper chip was not installed.

Yet at the Pioneer site...
HDMITM Inputs 2
(HDMI connection may not allow transmission of copyright protected material depending on the capability of the signal source)
Sounds like firmware or the wrong chip was used...

I have the 74 and the 84 and they both pass 1080P... :D The 74 should have no trouble passing 1080P.

I have a 1080p TV and we got the PS3 for Christmas. I'm connecting the PS3 through the 74 via HDMI (HDMI in from the PS3 and HDMI out to the TV), but I'm only getting 1080i as a maximum resolution (Blu-Ray movies and games). Setting the PS3 to 1080p causes the TV to go blank until, I believe, the PS3 and the receiver re-negotiate to 1080i.

I'll have to go back through my setup and see if I missed something in the configuration. Any suggestions in this area would be appreciated as well.

I know, I'm getting anal about getting the last bit out of everything. But hey, I paid for it, might as well try to get everything out of it :D

Would probably help if I gave the TV model as well.

The TV is a Mitsubishi WD-73727.

Have you tried going straight from the PS3 to the tv to see if you have the same results?...Because if you do then you know it's not the receiver.

ah...

Bet it will not work. Don't think that display accepts 1080P so the problem is not the receiver...

spudly, another thing you might try is going to A/V Parameter and setting the "HDMI" to "Thru" instead of "Amp"...you will lose the audio, but I'm curious to see if the Picture passes through that way...Make sure you set it back to "Amp" when your done otherwise you won't have any HDMI audio going through your receiver.

As chuckken2 shows, it is supposed to be a 1080p DLP unit. One of the things that swayed me on getting the unit. Future compatability, thinking someday a few years from the purchase date not later the same year.

I tried going from the PS3 to the directly to the TV, same thing occurs. I get a blurred picture now instead of no picture when I went through the receiver. Oh, and after taking my time this time though the PS3 indicates it will try the new setting for 20 seconds and revert back if no action is taken.

I'll try the Thru setting next, but it is looking like the set is the issue now. Not sure why, but maybe Richard knows something I don't about the 1080p settings on this unit.
