SAT/HDMI - TV shuts off while viewing a program.

I have a Samgsung 5053s 50" plasma with a HR20-700 hooked up through the HDMI source. My TV will shut off while watching a program. I will get a blank screen, the blue light goes on (indicating the TV is off) and the TV shuts off, and then goes back on along with the computer noise that the Samsung TV makes when powering up and the blue light goes back off (indicating the TV is on). This happens several times a day and without warning. I FINALLY got a replacement DVR from DTV (refurb). It too does the same thing. I have not seen the TV shut off while watching a DVD. So I feel quite sure it is not the TV. Has anybody had this issue with their DVR's?

This sounds like a problem with the HDMI hand shake. Have you tried another known working HDMI cable?
Another possibility is incompatibility and that means updating the firmware for the TV. Being on sat firmware updates are automatic for the receiver.

Yes I have tried two different HDMI cables and changed the HDMI ports in the back of the TV, ( ports 1 and 2, for the DVD player and the DVR Sat. connection) still have the problem. I have not tried to just scrub the HDMI's in favor of component cables. I have heard that there maybe some incompatiblity issues with the HDMI's on the TV and the DVR???? I watced several programs yesterday and it did not shut off. IT did though on the 31st. of aug. ( 4 times).
much obliged, Bryan

I share the same problem. My former, and replacement 50" Samsung, also does the same thing... sometimes when watching a recording.
No pattern. I guess one just lives with it. Mine averages @ 1-2 weeks. It gets tired and wishes to start over, I guess.

I have 3 HDMI cables, a 42" Samsung DLP with two inputs, and none of the cables them ever worked all the time with DTV box but all work fine with OPPO and other DVD players. Component cable worked all the time and is still capable of as good a signal as DTV provides, I think, FWIW,Dave
