I am new here so I don't know if this is the right forum or not but here goes. I have a Sony KDS-R70XBR2 HDTV and I would like to know how you tell how many hours the bulb has burned (total hrs. TV has been on). I have had it about 13 mos. and was just wondering what the expected life of the bulb is?
Thanks,
Pat

If there is nothing in your owners manual about this then the only way to find out is to access the service menu which HD Library cannot help you with. That said there are plenty of other sites that provide that kind of support easily found with a google search.
If you can find out it says nothing about the state of the lamp because...

Since you have an RPTV standard ratings are 4000-8000 hours depending on the above...

Pat. I am a Sony distributor and during our training sessions, I have asked the same questions to Sony engineers. Since I own a KDSR50XBR1. I was told 3-5 years of average use of 6 hours a day. As Richard has mentioned in his reply, turning on and off cycles reduces the lifespan as does vibration to the lamp and power surges.

Thanks for the reply. Before I bought my TV I was reading posts on a forum (I thought it was this one but maybe not) and I sure thought someone posted a way to get the the TV to tell this information but I am getting old and senile so I guess I didn't. Since some days my Tv stays on from 8am to around 4am the next morning and other days it is on from around 1pm till 4am so I don't think my bulb will last that long. That was why I was courious to find out exactly how many hrs. it had been on in 13 mos.
Well I guess I will find out when it goes out. I don't think turning it off and on is going to be a promlem since it is seldom off and I have a Monster battery backup that automaticly turns the Tv off and lets the fan blow for about 2 min. I think to let the bulb cool down if the power goes off.
Thanks again,
Pat

Fixed the link so it goes directly to the article. From that...
Again, Toshiba engineering has a differing view: They recommend you disregard the above and set the display for the high power setting because the lamp was designed and life span maximized for the higher power setting. While counterintuitive to what one would expect, that is exactly what Toshiba engineering claims based on comparisons of televisions owned by consumers and the televisions on display at the store, which run all day long in high power mode, receive one power cycle per day, and in some cases none. Toshiba found that dealer demo displays could get up to 7000-8000 hours out of a lamp. It is noteworthy that the same claim has been made for years with ordinary incandescent light bulbs used with a dimmer.

There is yet as stated in my last post:

You could cause trouble in there... My point is what does it matter unless you want to make some sort of statement about lamp life? if you find out you have 2000 hours or 4000 hours what will that information change? The only thing I can think of is somebody concerned about when the lamp may fail and wanting one on hand in preparation. I did that two years ago and that $200 lamp is still waiting to be installed.
If it looks fine then enjoy. If you are concerned about not having a replacement on hand order one now. Nobody can predict
when your lamp will fail.

I am not trying to make trouble any where. I am a peaceful man.
I was just courious as to how many hours my Tv had been on (using electricity) in 13mos. A second bulb came with the Tv.
One of the posts to your article stated that his Sony Tv quit showing the hrs. of bulb life after he had to have something on his Tv replaced.
