Sony HDMI Handshake

I have a Sony KDF-50WE655 lcd projection set. Being an older set, (4 yrs) it only has one HDMI input. At Christmas, I purchased a Monoprice HDS-201, 2 in, 1 out switch. Everything has been working just fine with my Comcast STB and my upscaling DVD player both going into the switch via HDMI and a single HDMI from the switch to the set.
Last night we went to watch a dvd and alas, no picture. As I fiddled with things, I couldn't get a picture from the stb either. I knew the set was ok because I still have my cable card in place and I could get a picture on that video input. I removed the Monoprice switch and tried connecting via HDMI directly from the stb to the set and then separately, tried connecting the dvd player directly to the set but neither would work. I finally gave up and connected both devices to the set via component cables, which worked fine.
This seems to point to the HDMI input on my set not working correctly. Is it possible to cause any "confusion" within the set by using one of these switches? Has anyone had any handshake issues when using these HDMI switches? I am currently trying unplugging my set for as while to see if it possible resets something but I'm obviously grasping at straws. I tried to use this as an excuse to my wife that it's time to upgrade the set but you guys all know how that went!
