FOX NEWS CHANNEL TO LAUNCH IN HD ON MAY 1ST

FOX News Channel (FNC) will launch in High Definition (HD) beginning Thursday, May 1st, announced Tim Carry, VP of Affiliate Sales. Initially available to Time Warner customers in select regions, the FOX News HD feed will be presented throughout the network's special election coverage, including the upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

In making the announcement, Carry said, "We look forward to FOX News HD further enhancing the overall viewing experience of the number one cable news channel by delivering content through state-of-the-art technology."

FOX News HD will be offered as a separate high-definition signal and will be a simulcast of the standard-definition format. The HD service will also include added content on the screen in the form of an "HD wing," which will display national and world headlines, the latest in the financial markets, weather updates and sports scores.

Time Warner Cable, the first system to carry FNC in HD, will launch on May 1st in various parts of New York, including Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island (channel 744) and Hudson Valley (channel 762). Time Warner has also agreed to carry FNC HD in San Antonio, Texas on channel 152.

FOX News Channel (FNC) is a 24-hour general news service covering breaking news as well as political, entertainment and business news. For more than six years, FNC has been the most-watched cable news channel in the country, presenting the top eight out of ten programs in the genre for 2008 to date. Owned by News Corp., FNC is available in more than 90 million homes.

In response to my email inquiry, I received the following response from DirecTV Customer Service: "...While we don't have plans to add the Fox News Channel in HD at this time, we're working to bring you even more HD channels in the near future..."...
