Once an aggressive promoter of the new-defunct HD-DVD format, Paramount Home Video is now turning to Blu-ray as the future of its profit center. Beginning with the upcoming home video release of the film Dance Flick Paramount is trying a new approach where the Blu-ray sales and DVD rental versions will be released several weeks before the standard DVD version is planned to hit store shelves. It is hoped that this strategy will further push Blu-ray Disc player and movie sales, and further solidify its continued growth. Disney is also attempting to take a similar approach.
