Someone suggested or simply declared that the perceived picture quality of
any of the new 1080P sets would not differ from existing 1080i or 720p sets.
Could this be true? To be more specific, a 2004 DLP Samsung or Mits will
look the same as one of their new 1080P DLP's?

A 720P/1080P DLP will be very comparable comparing apples to apples
using most consumer sources. Unfortunately the way the manufacturer has
the display setup will clearly play a role in this actually being true.

As an example many claim plasma is sharper than any other technology
including the new 1080P LCD flat panels that have received great praise.
That is due to poor fill factor, not a better design, creating the
perception of increased sharpeness. Edge and detail enhancement will
also cause the same perception.
