----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----
This may be trivial, but there is a phenomenon I find fascinating and for
which I have no explanation. We enjoy OTA HD for locals from Tampa here in
Sarasota. We are about 50 miles from most of the Tampa local channel
towers. We are, however, about 75 miles from the CBS tower. Our home is in
a wooded area, adding some excitement to our OTA efforts. We are having one
of those intense summer Florida thunderstorms right now. CBS HD is coming
in great from Tampa. On a clear night, we typically do not get good
reception of that signal. This experience is the inverse of what is logical
to me. Anyone have an interest in educating me as to why this would be?

Ray, if you are serious about getting the CBS UHF HD out
of St. Petersburg, you might want to consider a good
UHF preamp connected to a separate UHF antenna.
A good antenna-mounted preamp, with a low noise figure,
can make the difference between a solid lock and no lock.
Don't go to RS, for a preamp... those are TOO noisy...
Go for a Channel Master... the UHF noise figure should be
lower than 3dB... with enough gain to overcome your
cable loss.
Have you tried getting the CBS HD out of Orlando? Taller
tower, on the east side of town, running 1 megawatt.
Good luck...
