Comcast and NHL

It was just announced that Comcast will have rights to most NHL games
going forward, taking over from ESPN. The article I read said they plan
to show the games on OLN, which begs the question: what about HD hockey?
Of all the sports, I would argue hockey benefits most from HD coverage
as the extra detail makes following the puck much easier (especially for
new viewers) and the widescreen pulls much more of the rink into view.
Please tell me we'll have HD hockey somewhere! Anyone know anything
about it? I am not aware of OLN's HD plans (if there are any).

As a fan of the NHL I was also wondering about that as well. Gary Bettman
said a couple of years ago that HD was the best thing to happen to hockey
but if ESPN does not think there is a market the NHL needed someone to
broadcast their games. A sad day but that's what Bettman and the union
deserves. Hopefully it will change for the playoffs.

And for Aaron: what's in South Bend besides a university? Oh, you mean that
rag, tag football team I suppose. :)

Well, that's good news - now we just need someone to carry it! I
actually have Comcast cable in the Atlanta area, so I hope Comcast
corporate pushes this to their systems in the near future.

OK, found it. It is under the affiliates section - basically a sales
pitch to try to get systems to carry the channel. Unfortunately the
page advertises "OLN HD - 5 hours per month". Yikes. I have to say, as
an affiliate that isn't much of a sales pitch.

I would hope they would carry their own network, since Comcast owns
OLN.

NHL = National Hockey League
Comcast Cable will showing our local pro hockey team
the San Jose Sharks in HD, preempting HDTV INHD2
channel, it is a HD simulcast of SD on FOX Sports Net
Bay Area channel 40. It is a FOX Sports Net Bay Area
production with a deal with Comcast for the HD
coverage (Same thing applies to the SF Giants, Oakland
A's and Warriors Basketball team.)
There are also many other Comcast Sports Net
regionals, throughout the country and there are also
many FOX Sports Net regionals, check with your local
Cable Co. and/or DBS service for any HD channels they
carry
Comcast may (we will hope) pick a couple of the HD
regional NHL matches to present on their Comcast cable
to the rest of the country if no game is being covered
by the local regionals.
It is convoluted system of TV rights,
FOX Sports Net Regionals are separate from the "FOX
Sports" with NFL Football, MLBaseball etc., yet FOX
still owns in interest in the FSN regional networks,
so it is hard to figure all poss. senerios
