I have heard such great reviews of both of these sets in terms of their PQ
but I have not seen a direct comparison between them.

I own the HP and I am still within my 21 day return window and want to know
if the Sony PQ is better than the HP?

I love that the HP accepts 1080P native but if the Sony has a better PQ then
I would be willing to wait for the new one that will accept 1080P

thanks in advance
Michael

Michael,

Having 1080p inputs is not everything one should look for; a set could still do a lot of harm to an
otherwise perfectly mapped 1080x1920 image pixel to pixel to the chip structure; look at DNIe, SVM,
and many other "enhancements" intended to create magic.

Although the reviews are not of the techno-quality I like, you might find what you are looking for
in general terms; the HP has been compared to the Sony, and to some other 1080p sets, on the last
issue of the Home Theater magazine (Feb 06).

HP was last, Sony was first, but.

Brillian was not included (it has 1080p inputs)

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra

I own an HP MD5880n and now that I have one that works (the
replacement) it has an exceptional picture. I saw both sets (SONY
and HP) at CEDIA in September and thought that they were about equal
in picture quality. The fact that the HP has 1080p input puts it in
a class by itself. If you want to wait for the SONY 1080p input
version, that would be an option. Just be aware that we don't know
for sure whether that will be 3 months or 9 months from now as per
Rodolfo's comments. And also be aware that the HP is not the only
set with "issues." Some have reported green splotches on their SXRD
displays. I see no splotches on my HP. The pictures may not be
perfect, but both sets are darn good. Right now the HP is the only
real choice until 1080p SONYS come out (unless you want the $10,000 projector.)
