----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----
W..O.. W!
Who would have ever imagined that Mr. Cripps ...
"The Reknown and Honorable" Mr. Dale Cripps -
founder of this very forum, "Father" of
HDTV-Magazine and "The Voice of Digital-HDTV" for
decades ... would - could - use "Linda Lovelace"
as a comparative in making a point! You .. Go ..
Dale! Looks like the fire still burns hot!
On a more serious note, re: the Senate "Hearings"
(so-called, since these guys like nothing more
than "hearing" themselves talk!) While the
statements by many of the panel members (Industry
spokes-persons!) were increasingly incredulous,
these were surpassed by the incredible "ignorance"
of most of the Senators! Please don't
misunderstand and conclude that I'm making any
type of "political" statement here; that is NOT my
motive. But watching this group of "AARP
Candidates" display their total lack of knowledge
concerning such a significant issue, one cannot
avoid thoughts of "term-limits!"
As I have previously noted here a number of times
over the past 4 to 5 years, weekly email questions
from website visitors repeatedly display the
publics absolute confusion regarding the Digital
Transition, and all things related to
Digital-HDTV. If Mr. Gary Shapiro truly believes
he, and CEA, have adequately informed, much less
educated the public about the transition, he is
either a fool, self-deluded, or simply doesn't
give-a-dam about consumers! (I personally don't
think Mr. Shapiro is a fool!)
Here are (2) recent emails ...
(#1) On Mon Jul 11 21:55:57 2005, the following
results were submitted from the "Contact" on
hdtvinfoport.com: "When will HDTV be mandatory?
Will everyone have to buy a new HDTV or will there
be a convertor box available for the old one?..."
Submitted by: First Name: 'Bill'.
(#2) On Sun Jul 10 00:16:34 2005, the following
results were submitted from the "Contact" on
hdtvinfoport.com: "Is it true we won't be able to
use our current "regular" TVs as-is, effective
March 2006? Our 19" kitchen TV conked out today
and needs repair/replacement but a teen-aged sales
clerk said it will cost as much as $800 to convert
each of our three TVs to HDTV, or at least $1,000
to buy a new HDTV...
I think about the seniors who can't afford those
prices and wonder if they'll have to spend their
evenings playing checkers! Is there any point in
my buying a new "regular" TV to replace the kaput
kitchen TV? If you aren't able to answer me via
e-mail, where should I look for answers to share
with a lot of friends and co-workers who need
reliable answers to these same questions?
Submitted by: First Name: 'Esther'.
Five years ago, these questions were a concern
because they showed the great need the public has
for information. But to be receiving them today -
five years later! - is more than troubling. I'm
certain that anyone who is in contact with the
general public regarding Digital-HDTV, can attest
to similar experiences. Hearing the comments from
this bunch of "mentally-doddering" "leaders?" is
beyond frustrating... BUT - worse, is viewing the
smirks on the faces of the panel members -
"Industry Leaders!" - exchanging knowing glances
with each other... their smuggness displays what
is too evident - it doesn't matter what they tell
the "senators," as long as contributions are made
in a timely manner, all will be well!
Incidentally, the two examples cited above, are
not isolated emails. They represent about a dozen
identical questions received weekly - and this is
a reduced number because a disclaimer on the
website clearly informs consumers not to expect
any personal answers to their submitted questions!
Note that the public continues to have the false
understanding that they are being compelled to
discard their Analog TV, and are forced to buy an
"HDTV!" Do you wonder who perpetuates that LIE?!
Dale, if Mr. Shapiro would like to see how well
informed his "consumers" are, I will gladly
forward the hundreds of emails like those above
for his edification. Unfortunately, as you point
out in your comments, Mr. Shapiro is NOT at all
interested in either reality or the truth. Almost
makes you think he, too, has his own agenda ...
Na.. couldn't be!
