Can anyone help me with this problem. I just signed on with Direct TV. I
have I HDTIVO which works well, I thought my TW HDDVR was more user
friendly. Maybe just a learning curve. Is it possible for the installer to
somehow screw up the cabling so that a box will not work correctly on it? I
was told that on the D10-300 boxes that they have been having problems
loading the new update on it.

Something regarding the voltage on this unit. At time it will attempt to
start off and then go black. Other times it will say the wrong card is in
the unit.I have wasted over 4 hours over the past two weeks attempting to
fix this. Their CS is horrible, same as Time Warner but at least TW's
service was dependable.

Is there anything I may try to get this going? I had an older Hughes HD
model which I told them I wanted to add if these other units were not going
to do me any good. When I installed it I get service YEH I cannot get HD
channels and I cannot get SD locals. If I was able to get service on this
same cabling it then must be their D10-300 boxes right? Thanks

James,

I do not have this unit, but assuming the logical, have you try to see on the STB menu if the dish
setting is on oval 3 LNBs?

The installer should have left the STB in working order before leaving, I believe you only have a
couple of months to claim for free revisit.

Best Regards,

Yes I have it set to Oval 3 LNBS. My HDTIVObox works fine. I don't get it.

Rodolfo,

On my Direct installation, the installer set up 5 Direct TV units. One was a
HD Tivo which has worked well. One D10 and three D10-300. Two of these
D10-300's will not work properly at all. The supervisor at Direct said that
they never have seen this problem before and then in the same sentence told
me that they have had some issues with the D10-300 box not accepting the new
software update.

They had me restart the machine and once it started up to press the keys
1,2,4,5,8 in order. This would attempt to load the new software on the unit.
It did not work. Still getting a black screen and at times error messages
that state that I have the wrong access card in the unit.

The crazy part is at various times I was able to get this same machine to
work in my basement. But not at two other areas in the house. I then tried
to move my HD Tivo to the same rooms that the D10-300 wouldn't work and the
HD Tivo started up fine.

Could there be an issue with the amount of voltage coming through the cable
in different rooms that would affect how the D10-300 boxes work?

Since these two D10-300 boxes would not work at all I requested that
Customer Service program one of my cards to work in older Hughes HD I had
laying around from a garage sale outing. It also started up fine, so it does
seem that it is only unique to the D10-300 boxes.

James,

It certainly looks that way (faulty 300), I could not keep track of all models problems due to lack
of time, and usually individual cases can be better resolved by searching the forums by model
number.

I have not noticed a comment that you have tried to test the 300 on rooms where the other HD STBs
work (you mentioned you tried the opposite). It they work there, it might be a problem related to
sensitivity to cable length. Do they work well for OTA?

A service visit should resolve this problem for free if they did the installation recently.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra
