----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

I'd like to know what others on this list think about 4x3 HD
television set models.
Other than, perhaps, price, is there a purpose anymore for
these (rather than 16:9) and should they any longer be marketed as HD?
Best,
Robert

I've got what is now an "old" Sony Trinitron 36" XBR flat screen HDTV "ready" monitor that provides a great picture playing DVD's for my young daughters, most of which are either 4x3 or have the ability to be played in either format. Moreover, many programs are still in this format. There's a lot more picture area when you fill the 4x3 screen. I paid $2600 for this TV in 2000/2001 when other stores sold it for $3000 or more and today you can buy it in some places or the equivalent tube in a different Sony model # for about $1200 to $1400. If you see one, and it has 1080i resolution, buy it, it's a steal with an incredible picture even when playing in 16x9 format with much of the screen blank.

Don't confuse ED resolution with 4x3 picture ratio.
