Fisheye Effect

I've noticed on numerous occasions when watching HD
programming that, when the camera pans left or right
on long shots such as a landscape or sporting event,
there is a slight, yet discernable, fisheye lens
effect to the image.

Is this due to the HD camera lens, an issue with my
CRT rear-projection Mitsubishi TV, or my
less-than-perfect vision? It seems to be more
prevalent with live and videotaped programming than
with movies, thus leading me to believe it is indeed
the HD camera.

I have seen that regardless of source. It is the way the film or video
was shot and the lens used.

Richard,
Could the LCD lag time also contribute to the problem as Rodolfo said? i have read that there are some new LCD Displays that have improved the response time. I don't remember which brands claimed improvement.

Not for this artifact. This is a common artifact. Nothing mysterious
here. Have noticed it since 1992 and widescreen laserdisc.

I believe it is common with 2.35 because that uses an anamorphic lens to
capture the image which creates a pincushion problem that in turn
requires an anamorphic lens and curved screen to remove the pincushion
problem creating the perception of straight lines. When you transfer
that system to a flat screen you get the fish eye effect.

Pure speculation based on what little memory cells I have left...
