HD-DVD compared to D-VHS?

When someone gets one of the Toshiba HD-DVD players I would like to know how
it compares to JVC's D-VHS. I've seen comments to the effect that it is
superior to D-VHS and I would question that but who knows.

As good as DVHS is or was the technical performance was quite shabby for
frequency response unless you used the 1394 to another D/A convertor and
even then that only took you from shabby to poor.

Have not tested DVHS with DVI/HDMI connections; don't have that player.

Can't say the new HD-DVD will be any different for analog component but
if HDMI/DVI in your display chain is up to snuff hopefully we can now
get a full and flat frequency response.

Hmmm.........poor frequency response. Does that mean the picture was poor?
Just kidding you. As you probably remember I've got a JVC D-VHS from long
ago and never did think the picture quality was that stunning versus 480p
DVD. Better yes.........fantastically better, no.

Perhaps one indicator of HD-DVD technology's potential could be that Joe Kane
ceased supporting D-Theater D-VHS in favor of WMV9-HD DVD as his preferred
format for 'Digital Video Essentials Professional.' He values the image
quality improvement of HD DVD over D-Theater, not just the fact that linear
tape is inherently unreliable and ponderous to navigate.
