HD DVD for $399?

There is one major limitation of this product - it does not play WMV-HD
titles! There are copy protection issues that have not fully been
resolved, so for now it is limited to files on a PC shared across a
network. The company that actually makes it, IOData, has said they are
working hard to get WMV-HD licensed from Microsoft, but they've been
working hard for at least 2 years with nothing so far.

I hope it changes, but for now, it's just not there.

Hi, Now I am confused, Does the JVC SRDVD-100U play WM9 HDDVD directly
or not? Following the links leads to a description which either claims
that it does, or else is the most cleverly written disinformation I have
seen recently.

Actually the interesting thing for those of us with
DVHS/Firewire/iLink devices the media server option is pretty cool.
But, there is rumor of a MPEG-4 capable device coming out soon--the
3rd generation, this being part of the second. So, off a server I
can play my HD shows I've recorded, or done a capture from a DVHS
deck, most of this was discussed previously (check around 6/20/05).

The Pro D-Theater VCR from JVC was used in Hollywood for dailys and in
essence this Pro DVD-HD player replaces that and it supports WMVHD but
not for prerecorded movies.

I am still shocked by the price which was the main point of the post.

No, it does not play "WM9 HDDVD" except for one single German title. The
others are encrypted and require a license to play. The manufacturer of
the unit has said they are working on adding that functionality, but for
now, the answer is no.

It would be wise to consult JVC and ask them your specific question - I
would love to hear their response! Make sure to mention titles such as
T2 with online DRM, as well as German titles with "on disc" DRM.
