Perhaps I should have added the possible qualification that it MAY only
apply to those satellite broadcasts that were transmitted with the
broadcast flag turned on. As I recall, one of the first programs I
recorded was the movie Master and Commander. When I started recording it a
dialog box popped up and basically said "the owner of this copyrighted
material will not allow the native HD resolution to be transmitted via the
component video outputs". So, I continued recording it and a couple of
other programs that the dialog box also appeared for and when I played them
back the output was digital but clearly not HD. I know that I didn't
imagine the dialog box or the fact that the video was not HD.

A dalog box didn't pop up when I recorded Master and Commander using
component outputs.

Aaron:

Was your DVDR hooked up to your monitor via component output or HDMI when
you were recording Master and Commander? I'll almost bet that IF you were
hooked up via component video out (the only choice with my Sony monitor)
that you may have seen the dialog box like I did.

Sorry Aaron. What I meant to say was by some chance did you also have an
HDMI cable plugged into the DVR at the same time by any chance?

Thanks,
Tom

My HD Tivo is only connected by component and I record HBO from
DirecTV at 1080i all the time. There is no message, no downrezzing.

I have no idea what in your setup may be triggering it, but your
situation would seem to be unique.

I only had the component cable connected at the time of the recording.
