I was at best buy last night and saw an HDMI switcher for 119.00. It gives
you a second HDMI input and allows you to manually switch between two HDMI
sources. It seems like a pass through with no filtering or enhancements of
any kind. A bit pricey to me but given the average cost of HDMI cables it's
probably in the range. It beats having to buy a separate receiver for the
same purpose though. I'll probably pick one up when I decide that the price
of one of the competing HD disc formats is affordable and stable.

That's actually pretty cheap. Most are several hundred dollars. A remote
would make all the difference in the world...

I couldn't agree with you more on the remote. Well getting up to change
inputs is probably the most exercise some of us will get. ;-)

Along a similar line, I am considering purchasing a
Phillips 32" LCD TV with dual HDMI inputs. My Dish
DVR has DVI out and not HDMI. A google search shows a
cable is available with DVI on one end and HDMI on the
other. Is this the correct way to connect and will
there be any loss of signal quality?

Joe - the cable you are referring to is perfect, and there is no loss.
Because it's a digital connection, the only thing you are losing is the
audio portion of the hdmi signal, which just means you'll connect the audio
output of the DVR separately to your receiver or tv.

It does not. Only component video, not even dvi.

BUT, they are making it somewhat expandable...with packs planned for hard
drives, etc...it wouldn't be hard to add a dvi/hdmi (more likely dvi since
it's computer based, and there are no hdmi video cards on the horizon that I
have seen).

Probably before the PS3 is introduced in the US next fall.

If they are not introducing the PS3 until the fall, is Sony still on track
to introduce Blu-Ray
by the beginning of the second quarter of 06? I can't help but wonder what
the price point for the PS3 will be given the fact that it will supposedly
include a Blu-Ray player.
