Eric,
According to TI, the company has no plans that can be officially announced regarding the
introduction of a true 1080p chip for RPTVs at this time, the RPTV chip is not the same chip than
the one they supply manufacturers for projectors, just announced.
If you ask me, according to my analysis since they introduced DLP, their approach of launching chips
in stages is to meet their view of the consumer market, and keep motivating consumers with gradual
step improvements (and manufacturers to sell newer models using the newer chips with the step
improvements).
Based on that, the 1080p chip for RPTVs would not take long to be introduced, specially considering
the growing appealing for 1080p displays and the potential content with Hi Def DVD, not to mention
the effect that some manufacturer's manipulated publicity of "double HD resolution" on the minds of
people did, just with a wobulated chip.
When the new true 1080p for RPTV becomes available, some manufacturers would probably compound that
publicity and say "double the mirrors of that doubled resolution" and people would just think "four
times HD!!" and run for their checkbook without even understanding a word.
Best Regards,
Rodolfo La Maestra

Will TI also be offering the true 1080p DLP chip and Brilliant Color feature
in RPTVs?
