Jason,

Just got this from the press office of JVC.

You might want to add this one to your (very short) list of Hi Def DVD players that are capable of
WM9, it looks as it will beat the Bravo D3 timeline and probably price as well ($399).

----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

JVC does not claim that this DVD player will play pre-recorded WMV9 HD DVDs such as 'Step Into Liquid', 'Standing In The Shadows Of
Motown', 'Digital Video Essentials Professional', etc. They only claim it will play imported WMV9 HD video files from a networked
source and/or WMV9 HD files recorded to DVD by an individual. I made the mistake of being all excited about the Buffalo player
mentioned previously on the Tips List, that it could play my WMV9 HD DVD collection. Buffalo explained to me that Microsoft has yet
to license anyone the decoding of their proprietary copy guard protection. Apparently, at this time, only Windows Media Center OS
offers this decoding. I would be happy to hear different, but JVC's specifications info on this player does not include WMV9 HD DVD
among the other disc formats it will play. WMV9 only appears with the video files it will play. This is the same scenario that
occurred with the Buffalo player, which does many of the same things as this JVC player, plus includes internal WiFi and retails for
$50.00 less. Does anyone on the Tips List have deeper background on this issue?

This is the IOData unit rebranded, similar to the buffalo tech unit you
mentioned. I sent email to my contact at IOdata and I'll report back
when I have this info.

Yours is the same question I have - wmv-hd dvd support. So far it's been
non-existent, but there is some hope - and isn't related to Microsoft
licensing the copy protection...

I'm eagerly waiting for any news on this issue. I would really prefer to spend $300-400 for a player that can handle WMV9 HD DVDs,
than $2,000+ for a decent WMC PC.

Alan, Jason,

I did not forget about your request for information, I contacted JVC at various levels in the PRO
dept to confirm your concern of WM9 capabilities, which is mine as well.

They promised to get back to me next week and we will discuss the issue.

I will keep you posted.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra
