The studios that were scheduled to release movies in the HD-DVD format have
all said they can't meet the 3/28 release date due to technical reasons. So
now we will have players and no software. This would all be rather funny
if it wasn't such a waste of resources.

Hugh, I would be surprised if the hardware were ready anyway. AACS was only
approved mid February. From my understanding, AACS is something that will be
embedded in the chipsets. If that's the case, you can't design/manufacture
chips, then produce boxes, plus ship to the US in 6 weeks. Maybe AACS is
implemented in software?

For a March 28th release, the hardware would have to be on a ship now,
barely 4 weeks since AACS approval.

I asked the Toshiba rep at a local demo a couple of weeks ago and they were
insistent they would meet that deadline. I was still skeptical.
