Ran across the above advertised as a DVD for testing DVD players and
televisions and was wondering if anyone has tried it or is familiar with it.
It is from Silicon Optix and can be found at www.hqv.com

I know that I have read on this forum about the DVD's for calibrating our
HDTV's. However, DVD's don't produce a HDTV quality signal. Wouldn't it
be better to use a Home Theatre Tape to calibrate the HDTV's? Of course,
this would mean having a HD Tape player.

Is that the best way to go?

The "best way to go" is to hire a ISF technician (preferably one who comes
recommended to you).

Hugh,

A year ago Silicon Optix game me one preliminary DVD for testing when they did a demo of the wonder
chip, as a courtesy when I wrote several articles about their Teranex technology (some content
could be found as part of the highlights of CES 2005 report, and the chip section).

HQV is one of technologies that is doing good to the industry due to their quality video processing,
look at the coverage of HQV on the chips section of the report (on the back). Algolith (the famous
Mosquito product manufacturer) is using it now on their new scaler "DragonFly", Denon on their
hi-end DVD player, and many more manufacturers are gradually adopting the technology due to its high
quality, similarly as when they adopted DCDi from Faroudja a couple of years ago.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra
