Can anybody give me their opinion of the following
receiver? I have a Samsung HD Receiver that I'm happy
with, but to get an HD DirecTV Receiver with TIVO and
with the large Hard Drive seems like a great deal at
this price ($295).

Thanks for any advice.

I waited until I could get the HD Tivo for $300. I've had it for a
couple of months now and it's the best money I've spent on my HT.

My wife actually thanked me for buying it.

What are Tivo's plans for high definition once DirecTV pulls the rug out
from under them? My understanding is that there is one and only one way to
get true Tivo (as opposed to a house brand DVR) in HD, and that is through
DirecTV. Once that's not a revenue stream for Tivo, what happens next? I've
heard no plans of a firewire (the only feasible recording method) Tivo that
would take input from anything else...

TiVo is apparently busy working on a Cable Card TiVo. This was
announced two years ago at CES, and confirmed as a shipping product
"in 2006" at last year's CES. Hopefully we will have an answer during
this year's CES announcement.

Per the below thread, they have a contract with Comcast to begin providing
DVR's near the end of 2006.

Is there no discussion/plans for a HD Tivo with an
ATSC tuner?

I have a NTSC Tivo standalone, which I don't use much
anymore, as I don't watch much NTSC TV anymore, but I
loved during the time I used it.

Couple the HD Tivo with the ATSC tuner with cable card
capability, and you've got a winner (IMHO).

This is a likely new product from TiVo. I seem to remember that the
unit displayed at last year's CES had an ACSC tuner as well as a cable
card slot. I am sure the answer is in Rodolfo's CES report. I will
look it up if I get time.
