Last year ABC told me that the physical size of Indy
andthe amount of Cameras would have made it to
expensive.. to produce.
Also may be a shortage of trucks with Nascar and NBA
Playoffs in full swing...

Now the real test will be if Fox does the 'Brickyard 500' (that's the
one on/at the Indy track?), in HD, then ABC has no more excuses.

I believe NBC will have the Brickyard 400. It will be interesting to see if
it is HD.

I don't believe the truck shortage excuse flies anymore. NTM alone has 5 HD
trucks now and that's just one company. For a sporting event billed as "the
greatest spectacle in racing" you would think Disney could pony up, but
apparently not. With all the Danica Patrick hype and the resulting ratings,
looks to me like a lost opportunity for promoting HDTV.

Must have been a pure bean counter decision. Maybe with HDTV reaching
critical mass they'll rethink that one for next year?

NBC has already indicated it will broadcast the Brickyard 400 in HD. More
egg on ABC's face.

Since Fox made a big deal out of announcing that their NASCAR broadcasts would be in HD I bet they
will. I can't remember when that race is but it might be NBC or TNT.

If ABC had a clue about the effect of Danica they would have done in HD. The ratings went up 40%
over last year.

So did the interest of this board...

This Indy fan has felt quite lonely over the last three years. ;)

Unfortunately, most of the marketing studies suggest that as long as the
rift remains between IndyCar and ChampCar, they just won't have the ratings
or sponsor pull to justify big promos or coverage.

That being said, I'm sure the analysis is being re-evaluated this week,
thanks much to Ms. Patrick and her performance. There was never any doubt
she had the skill set. She's proven that by her results in Europe. But
without the top notch equipment from Letterman/Rahal under her butt, she's
just an "also ran".

Everyone's an also ran without the right equip. and she sure has it. Tony George killed open wheel
racing in the USA and as far as I'm concerned we have not had a real Indy 500 since the IRL came
along. With all the defection to the IRL from Champ Car that series is on life support.

Hugh:

I agree. Danica is really getting to be famous in her own right. My wife
teaches the 4th grade in northern Illinois and had Danica as her student. I
recall her fuming, because Danica at age 10, was given time off from school
to go cart race, when the wife thought she should be doing her ABC's. But it
all turned out for the best. Just goes to show you, if you stick with and
commit to something long enough, you can make it pay off.

I agree with you tipsters that ABC droped the ball
with no HD Indy coverage. Danica was a added plus :-)

Luckily Yes, NBC will be doing HD this year, + it will
be in 1080i and will test the systems with fast motion
pan and zooms, they may have hiccups but they should
be Ironed out by the Brickyard 400.
They have only done 1 test race and one Broadcast race
last years Daytona 500 which went pretty well. They
also did Richmond last year on TNT in HD

Date:08/07/05 Allstate 400 at the Brickyard
Indianapolis Motor Speedway NBC/2:30 p.m. IMS/--

Their (NBC) first race in '05 will be the Daytona ,
Pespi(Firecracker)400 on 4th July week end.
