Hope it works this time.

Just got this from the people at CeBIT (I'm on the list since I go
there every year) that might interest potential customers of the LG player:

BTW, the consumer electronics and HDTV displays at CeBIT are really
amazing. I understand that it's frequently better than at CES, and
besides, the booths have free beer.

7) Hybrid HD player may never hit the market

The standalone player that LG presented at CES plays both
Blue-ray discs and HD DVDs, but the current player may not
receive the required certification from the DVD forum.

>From everything I have read, LG is not putting an HD DVD logo on the
player so there will not be any problem with marketing the player. They
are marketing it as a Blu Ray player that just happens to play HD DVD
discs. I also understand that the player has already shown up in some
retail stores, so it clearly is being marketed and sold. I have also
heard conflicting reports as to whether the follow-up version of this
player, which is supposed to be out in 6 months or so will have the iHD
capability.

I've heard, but not yet verified, that the HD DVD group was considering
litigation against LG prohibiting them from using the HD DVD name even,
but recently came to terms that they could use it as long as the logo
appeared nowhere on the unit or in marketing material. Once this is
researched and verified, the details will appear in the article.

Personally, I'll wait for next gen if it will have "real" HD DVD
support. I'm surely not paying $1200 for a player and a half.
