It's flat unbelievable to me that US Tax payers need to subsidize TV viewing
for $463 Million!!!! That is one huge chunk of money just to watch TV!!!
It just seems that that money could be better spent!

I should have also mentioned that this article also talks about requiring
manufacturers to put
warning labels on analog only TVs indicating they will go dark. And it
talks about the cost of
subsidizing the low income folks.

Take away television from the population at large and see what happens
to civil order. Television is the opiate of the people!

I believe the intent is to fund it from the proceeds for the recovered
spectrum auctions. Therefore the drag on the Federal budget is minimal.

Shane,

The date of 2007 (with the condition of the 85%) was questioned as improbable by many higher-ups,
and I agree, even with cable bringing 70% of viewers.

The dates I mentioned on the schedule were only for integrated tuners, set by the FCC, they do not
have to match the analog cutoff date.

At the HDTV Forum recently in Washington DC I witness several Congressmen showing interest in making
the 2007 date work, and making STB subsidy work, but one thing is seeing them when they speak with
convincing power at the audience that loves to hear that, the other thing is when they come back to
their law making zoo of lobbies and arm twisting.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra
