Can anyone tell me what the difference is between a "Pro" model and a
"consumer" model when it comes to a television. JVC is selling their new
LCoS model in both versions and from what I can discern from the JVC site
the Pro model is better constructed with more attention to
detail.........whatever that means.

One thing I can tell you is the higher price tag comes with a warranty that
they will honor if the unit is used in a commercial environment. That may
also mean it's a bit beefier. I run into the warranty issue a lot because
all of the stations and networks we do business with are too cheap to invest
in professional monitors for use on their sets. I'm talking about the
monitors that the public sees on the broadcasts. It states very clearly in
the manuals for those monitors that they are intended for home use only and
use other than what the unit is intended for will violate the warranty. It
doesn't matter to the manufacturers that there are really very few hours on
these sets. Can't blame them though.

As a follow up to my question below the Pro Division of JVC says the Pro
model has "pinpoint calibration to the D65 color standard". Is the D65 a
JVC term or is it a video term and if so what does it mean.

Ok, I found it. D65 is simply 6500K.

For the record, D6500 is NOT the same as 6500K.

On the CIE chromaticity chart, 6500K is a line that extends from magenta up
through green, while D6500 is a very specific point on the 6500K line where
red, green and blue come together to create grayscale.

D6500 is the standard for color temperature, not 6500K. Your display could
be calibrated to 6500K and look very green or very purple. At D6500, your
display would produce true, neutral gray.

Also, based on what I have seen from JVC product, I am VERY skeptical that
they are capable providing sets that are pre-calibrated to D6500.

Consider this to be more marketing BS until proven otherwise...

Doug
