Today is my first opportunity to catch up on email as I just got back from
catastrophe duty in the New Orleans area.

I have read with interest the various email threads expressing concern with
the way help and support to the area has been provided

My job only has me in the field at the onset of a major storm as I also have
responsibility for hub (uplink) operation back at our corporate office.

I can say first hand that what you see on the news is just the tip of the
ice berg.

Various groups are allowed into an impacted area on a priority basis. This
is based on a state's disaster planning and law.

We typically pre-stage our catastrophe teams as close to what we consider
will be an impact area based on the predicted storm track. Once we are
there, we cannot automatically enter an area until given the green light.

I also saw pre-staging by the Red Cross and government agencies. They like
us had to wait until given the green light to enter the area.

Just my 2 cents based on first hand knowledge.

Thanks,

Dave.
