----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

Dear Tipsters,

Back in 1998 Dale had the initiative and vision to bring together a few of
the first HDTV adopters. I was contacted to join.

Since I was involved with HDTV since the early 80s and there were no HD
dedicated consumer efforts back then I was glad to be part of the effort.

The Tips List started. It was the only technical service we had for many
years. The list was created to educate and help readers, but I wanted to
make it much better than typical forums, especially in the areas of maturity
and mutual respect.

My objective was for its spirit to be more professional, non-commercial,
transparent, mature, respectful, and not to allow the promotion and sale of
products or services for personal profit, so its neutral education could
continue to be trusted with comprehensive advise that went beyond responding
to a question.

And so it was for all these years, now its members are experienced and self
sufficient enough to provide their own networking advice to new members.
The objective was met.

However, several conditions of the spirit above have recently deteriorated.
I decided not to continue.

My payback was the opportunity to make great lifelong friendships, like
Dale, Shane, Hugh, Andy, Joseph, Jason, Jordan, Robert, Thomas, Ed and many
other excellent and respectful people, some lost to eternity, like Bill
Zintl, a wonderful person that hopefully rests in peace.

It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve the Tips List of this magazine,
and the hundreds of readers looking for trusted advise throughout all these
years.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra

I've appreciated and enjoyed your postings here but don't understand what the issue is.

Is it the discussion of the benefits versus cost of calibration? In 1988 I bought my first car, a used 1968 Ford Thunderbird. Shortly afterward I bought a full set of tools and an engine analyzer. I used to spend Saturday afternoons tuning the engine, lots of fun. Today you need a computer to tune a car, not much different than the equipment required to calibrate a high-def t.v. I joined this forum in 2000 when I bought my Sony 36" XBR. I wished I could have afforded to have had it professionally calibrated. I watch a Samsung 63" plasma now and it blows my mind, I made some minor adjustments with a calibration HD-DVD disc and it really improved the quality of picture but I know much more could come out of this t.v. and I have nothing but great respect for the professionals who study how to calibrate these and other sets, I hope to have some professional calibration done in the future. Quite frankly, it's beyond my ability to do so despite my innate desire to do everything myself.

If this discussion "thread" is the reason for your departure, it's regrettable. If it's not, what is the reason?

Rodolfo,

You are a gentleman in every sense of the word and the tips will not
be the same without your insights and explanations. Life moves on
and I trust that all will be smooth sailing for you in the years to
come. Rather than trying to dissuade you from leaving I'll simply
respect your decision since only you knows what's best for you. And
I'm sure our paths will cross again either in cyberspace or at one of
the many Home Theater related gatherings.

Take care and thanks for everything. Never give up the dream.

Count me third, I can't count the times that Rodolfo has helped me
personally. In addition his posts have cleared up many misconceptions I have
had with various subjects.

Count me as fourth. Though I rarely post anything. I love reading honest
answers. This business is so filled with hype and misconceptions I really
appreciate reading something that I can be sure is not filled with bias.
