Tips List in general,

I am working on the HDTV Industry report and came across a statement that many of you might find as
a sign of hope regarding Blu-ray outputting HD over component analog, and for the record, after
digesting tons of HDTV material is quite unique to be seen in written format:

we are just the ones that will buy the high cost boxes.

If that really ends up being the case Hugh then I will again be an early
adopter, of in this case Blu-ray. However, I won't be purchasing another
display until SED gets the bugs worked out or one of the other technologies
is capable of properly reproducing blacks and primaries. In the meantime
I'll be saving my pennies for a 7.1 surround processor.

I wonder though if this will be under the control of the content provider. That is, if the content has some kind of flag in it to either allow or not allow it to be sent in HD to the component connectors.

The implication would be that the hardware will allow it as long as the content isn't protected. We would then be dependant on the content providers (i.e. the Hollywood Studios) to allow it. If this is the case, than I wonder just how much content will be made available to us early adopters with component only.

Have you read Dr. Raymond Soneira's LCoS shoot-out articles in the Nov.,
Dec. & Jan. issues of 'Widescreen Review'?

The Brillian LCoS products are pretty impressive.

Since that would also cut ten million potential customers out of the
software market they would be wise not to adopt that strategy. Since we are
the guys with the deep pockets, they need us as much as we need them if they
want to get this new format off the ground. Supposedly the studios are
hurting financially. Besides I can't imagine having to scan the back of a
dvd to see if it's component enabled for HD. As lazy as these people are I
can't see them going through the trouble. Hopefully the will adopt the
Steve Miller strategy: "Go on take the money and run"!

Interesting the coincidence.

A 1080p series of articles are just coming, and includes a coverage I made about how Brillian's
circutry internals work for 1080p, I just finished the final of the first two parts today.

Anthony - When you're shopping for that 7.1 receiver, be sure to note
whether it supports Dolby Digital Plus, DTS++, Dolby TrueHD, DTS HD; whether
it has HDMI ports; whether the HDMI ports can accept the above formats, or
if you have to use analog inputs; and if it has enough HDMI inputs to
prevent you from having to purchase a separate HDMI switcher. :)

LOL.

But these are the same people that seem to think that all these protections are actually going to prevent the professional pirates from stealing their content.

I wouldn't at all be shocked if they block component in the name of piracy prevention. If the early adoptors have such deep pockets, then they can afford to buy new displays. Just think of the boost to the display manufacturers!

That won't be until some time in 07 for me and more than likely it will be
another Marantz. They seem to cover the bases pretty well as they were one
of the first manufacturers to offer HDMI switching. I feel sorry for these
companies in a way. They will have to retool much sooner than anticipated.

Thanks Rodolfo and don't work too hard. I really didn't see how they could
possibly leave us component only guys out in the cold. Too many of us when
we are just the ones that will buy the high cost boxes.

That won't be until some time in 07 for me and more than likely it will be
another Marantz. They seem to cover the bases pretty well as they were one
of the first manufacturers to offer HDMI switching. I feel sorry for these
companies in a way. They will have to retool much sooner than anticipated.

So there are two new version of Dolby, but only one new version of DTS? I
thought they each had a lossless and a lossy version.

If I weren't "picky" myself, I wouldn't be here :)

Alan,

Interesting the coincidence.

A 1080p series of articles are just coming, and includes a coverage I made
about how Brillian's
circutry internals work for 1080p, I just finished the final of the first
two parts today.

Best Regards,

Have you read Dr. Raymond Soneira's LCoS shoot-out articles in the Nov.,
Dec. & Jan. issues of 'Widescreen Review'?

The Brillian LCoS products are pretty impressive.

Best regards,

----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

Hugh,

They will be appearing at this Magazine at intervals, this publication reaches more public than all
of the other publications put together, and helping more public is my primary purpose, not making
money.

Additionally, waiting two or more months for seeing published an article I wrote that is time
sensitive, is not productive.

For example, I could prepare an article that pioneers the announcing how HD DVD work with 1080p
HDTVs before its introduction, but then it has to wait on the editors burner to the printed two or
more months later on hard copy issue.

That means that the article would actually be released "after" people spent $1000 on a the HD DVD
unit that would not work with their 1080p TV as they expect, and frankly that does not help the
public with timely information, even though the timely effort of preparing it was done.

Again, I will be helping the public better if I could avoid those stiff publishing schedules.

The personal email answer about HDTVetc was sent to you privately.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra

So there are two new version of Dolby, but only one new version of DTS? I
thought they each had a lossless and a lossy version.

If I weren't "picky" myself, I wouldn't be here :)

Not to be picky but DTS++ is now DTS HD.

That won't be until some time in 07 for me and more than likely it will be
another Marantz. They seem to cover the bases pretty well as they were one
of the first manufacturers to offer HDMI switching. I feel sorry for these
companies in a way. They will have to retool much sooner than anticipated.

Thanks Rodolfo and don't work too hard. I really didn't see how they could
possibly leave us component only guys out in the cold. Too many of us when
we are just the ones that will buy the high cost boxes.
