Thanks Joe. I actually purchased a floor model from Sound Advice /Tweeter
yesterday for 4,898.00 out the door with a one year manufacturer's warranty
on parts and labor. I physically examined the unit and it is in perfect
condition. We will be purchasing six more of these, but I have that set up
with a local vendor. Funny thing is, according to Sony this is still a
current model. Of course the same genius told me when I asked him about the
Blu-Ray launch that Sony had abandoned Blu-Ray as it was proprietary
technology and was too expensive to bring to market. I just about fell out
of my seat. I then asked him if he was sure about this. He then said he
thought he ought to double check his information and would I mind if he put
me on hold. When he came back he was apologizing all over the place. Of
course I asked him prior to this if he worked for Sony direct and he replied
no their company was hired by Sony to provide product information and
customer service. Things like this just boggle the mind!

Be careful the KDF70XBR950 went out of production quite a while ago and
stock that some places have may be "B" stock or worse. If it's the only way
you can go proceed with care, if not maybe you should consider the 73"
Mitsubishi DLP sets.

Alan,
You sell a lot more of them then we do which is probably why you've come
across that many defective sets. I thought yours was the company that makes
the TV Bias lighting/ backlighting. I just bought one for my Mits. It is
placed directly behind the monitor and is bouncing off the back wall. It
really helped with eye fatigue. I used to get tired within forty five
minutes of watching a film. Not anymore thanks to you.
I am curious about the comment you made about noise issues. This was on a
front projector I take it? Have you ever had any issues like that with crt
rp sets? If so what did it look like?

I may spend too much time on the home theater forums reading stories of
failed TVs. I have had displays fail within their warranty period that I've
sold. There have also been displays that I've sold that were defective out
of the box. I went through 3 highly regarded projectors in a row recently,
before I could install the thing. The first two had noise issues out of the
box. I insisted that my distributor open the box and test the third one
before I would even drive to their warehouse.
Yes, my company makes the TV bias lighting/backlighting. They are placed
behind not just RPTVs but broadcast and post production monitors, direct
view CRTs, flat panel TVs, computer monitors, digital radiology displays and
even front projection screens (in rare instances).

As we normally buy from Sound Advice / Tweeter, and we usually purchase an
extended warranty we do have service available nationwide. Having said
that, we have never had an issue with any of the sets we've purchased for
this purpose. In fact I purchased three HD sets last year that went to the
Bahamas and in spite of all the moving we have had no issues what so ever.
Just lead a charmed life I guess.

On a separate note, isn't your
company the one that makes the lights that are placed behind rp sets?

I would think they would want speedy replacement if anything went wrong with
it.
