This may be old news but in case it's not, Sony has introduced a new HD
camcorder that can be held in one hand and will be priced half as much as
current larger models.

My note on this was way old. It will sell for about $1,999 which is MSRP so
it should come down when available.

But this is PAL, not ATSC, right? I thought the max resolution of PAL was
720x576 ... although I am admittedly ignorant in this area.

Please educate me ...

Shane,

This is 1080i x 1440, which Sony calls HD, much better than PAL

PAL is 625 lines compared to the 525 lines of NTSC, both interlaced formats equivalent to SD level
in the digital world, regular camcorders should be able to capture those formats, this camera is way
beyond that level, like the JVC; I played with it at CES in Jan and it was a nice experience on such
a small size, colors were very crisp, specially the reds, typical of Sony (I could not say the same
of JVC).

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra

I was just confused because when I did a Google search on that model, all I
came up with were PAL versions. And they were calling those HD as well.
I'll clearly have to do some more research.

Thanks Rodolfo,
