Their iTunes content doesn't currently support more than that anyway. So
hardware that would doesn't make sense ... yet ;-)

It does 1080i also, but no 1080p... so yes, a bit of a bummer (if you
have a 1080p display). Not sure the difference would be much when
viewing your digital photos with 1080i vs. 1080p.

Where did you see that Jeremy? From the Tech Specs listed on the Apple
site, video is as follows:

Video formats supported:
H.264 and protected H.264 (from iTunes Store):
- 640 by 480, 30 fps, LC version of Baseline Profile;
- 320 by 240, 30 fps, Baseline profile up to Level 1.3;
- 1280 by 720, 24 fps, Progressive Main Profile

MPEG-4:
- 640 by 480, 30 fps, Simple Profile

1080i is listed as a "TV compatibility" resolution, but not a supported
video format. Please let me know if you have a different source.

Thanks,

Shane Sturgeon

Shane-

Yes, that is what I see also. I was worried that it would not support
my old 2001 65" Mits at 1080i when I saw 720p as the max resolution. I
was not really thinking about the video format it would play, just what
it would output. So I wonder how well the scaler is ;)

It seems to be missing MPEG2 also? I guess they do not want you playing
your ripped DVDs.

I was also reading the specs for the new Airport Extreme. What got me a
little more interested was support for sharing multiple hard drives and
printers via the USB port (using a USB hub if you have more than one) .
Plus the fact that it is a cable/dsl router and 802.11n wireless base
station. $179

Sorry if I confused anyone.

Once ripped, you can re-encode in whatever you want (almost). It depends
on how much time and money you have. I've actually started doing some
testing on my own ripp..., er, "backing up" my DVD collection and
re-encoding in VC-1 for playback through my Xbox 360 ... having success,
but at a price of about 4 hours to rip a feature-length movie. Of
course, I'm using my laptop ... so I could improve that time if I got a
"real" PC to do the re-encoding.

BTW, I also have an old Mits ... I think I've got you beat: '99 WS55805
(55"). And YES, it's time for me to get a new TV. I just have to decide
whether I want to go LCoS or LED-backlit DLP. Oh, and convince the
finance committee (wife) that we need it.
