I can't believe they're still talking about the DVD
players being connected to the internet.

This has to be a barrier to broad market acceptance.

Yes, and still with the ability to disable (destroy) systems remotely!

Imagine if Ford or GM could disable/destroy your car if you installed
non-factory parts. The legality of this is quite beyond me!

Believe it or not there are laws that say that you do not have to use
factory parts or dealer service to maintain warranty coverage on your car
(from my years of running a car audio/alarm installation company) the burden
of proof is on the car company to show that your actions caused the failure
in order to avoid honoring their warranty.

To me a more accurate comparison would be lock picks that signal the police
if used or computers that would report hackers that send you lovely viruses
and then shut down their computers.

Cheers,
Joe Hart

And it wouldn't be long before some script kiddie figures out what sequence
of data packets destroys these things ... then starts blasting them around
the internet?

Hahaha, of course!!!! That would be very sadly hilarious. Of course, unless
it was me hit, and then it would be target practice time.

This article seems to imply that Blu-Ray not HD DVD will be connected to the
internet to police hacking of the system. If that is in fact the case then
I would vote with my wallet for HD DVD. I have no interest in a system that
would impose additional costs (meaning a separate internet hook up)and limit
placement just to use it.

This subject was discussed before, please do a quick search on the saved Tips and obtain more on the
subject.

You need to know that the extent of such security system could be far worst than the cost you
mentioned, the system could even disable your player if the content provider determines that they
are risk with such unit, even when you just bought your legal DVD and played back legally in the
privacy of your home, you would be paying the price of someone else playing hacker.

The Perfect Vision Magazine has one short letter from the editor highlighting the same issue, and I
agree 100% with him.

I agree that content should be protected but the protection system might be killing the profits from
that content as well, so no one would win.

Best Regards,

Rodolfo La Maestra
