Brad:

Thanks for the info. I did notice that the set does not have an HDMI
input. I would probably buy it immediately if it did especially for
$899. I think most of the newer STBs and HD DVRs have HDMI output not DVI
so that could be a severe limitation I would think.

Thanks,
Tom

Tom,

I am not sure how good a set this is. But it seems like all thse new
manufactures from the Far East have similar specifications. This 30" from
Target is selling fro $599. That is real hard to beat for a bedroomr Tv.
It has no HDMI like the others byt does have DVI.

Good luck

Unbelievable, less than an hour ago the price came up as advertised,
$599.99. Now it is back to $999.00,

These sales sure end quickly.

Tom, DVI and HDMI are the same signal - HDMI just also carries audio, which
you don't need since you can just connect the audio separately. Someone
asked this same question a few days ago, and I responded then as well. They
are both digital connections and you just use a dvi-hdmi cable for the
connection - no 'signal loss', degradation, etc. As long as the set supports
HDCP over the DVI link, you're in business (without that, some devices such
as digital cable boxes will not display a signal).

Hope that helps!

Jason

Have owned one of these (32 inch model ) for several months now. Very
stable picture quality, also has PC capability with split screen feature.

For the price a very good buy taking into account all the features including
HDTV capability.

Hi Guys;

I would like some feedback. Is it true that with an HDTV you should sit
about 2 times the height of the screen?

If this is true then wouldn't a 32" screen suggest that you sit about 2 1/2
feet from the screen?

It appears that you would want a larger screen, unless you have a very small
bedroom and don't watch the TV from your bed.
Most beds are about 6 feet in length.

Thanks for any input.

Roughly 3 to 3.5 times the screen height for HD. Other sources increase the
distance.

Ed, with that small a tv, if it's really HD, the pixels are going to be
absolutely tiny. To appreciate the resolution, you should be no more than 4
picture heights away. When you're talking about that small, though, you're
not going to get the full effect anyway, so I'm not sure the formula is
relevant.

----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

It's awfully small if it's a 16:9 set. Compute here:

Thank you Hugh;

That would mean with the 32" HDTV you should sit between 3 1/2 - 4 feet from

the screen.

It still seems like a small screen size for a bedroom.

----- HDTV Magazine Tips List -----

Just thinking if I wanted a HDTV for my bedroom. I would go for a larger
set if I'm going to be lazy and watch TV in bed.

Maybe a 50" set would be better.

But for the kids I would go with the small set.

Question: Is that assuming 20/20 vision? I imagine (although have not ever
heard) that there is a scientific basis behind this that indicates what
sort of "resolution" the average human eye can discern? Actually, I assume
it would be a "gap/distance" ratio of some sort. Yes?

Roughly 3 to 3.5 times the screen height for HD. Other sources increase
the
distance.

Ed, with that small a tv, if it's really HD, the pixels are going to be
absolutely tiny. To appreciate the resolution, you should be no more than 4
picture heights away. When you're talking about that small, though, you're
not going to get the full effect anyway, so I'm not sure the formula is
relevant.

Thank you Hugh;

That would mean with the 32" HDTV you should sit between 3 1/2 - 4 feet
from

the screen.

It still seems like a small screen size for a bedroom.

Ed, with that small a tv, if it's really HD, the pixels are going to be
absolutely tiny. To appreciate the resolution, you should be no more than 4
picture heights away. When you're talking about that small, though, you're
not going to get the full effect anyway, so I'm not sure the formula is
relevant.

Jason, great reply
it is not a strict formula
I have 36" DV HDTV and 6-7 feet is / seems fine
what is the question?, dbl soryy, what angle to the
edges of the 16:9 screen does one perfer? AutoCAD can
draw all the angles to the screen you like, let me
know off line if you want a dwg file
I like to sit back in theaters, some like to turn
their heads back and forth to see the movie... in
front
