Wow. Thank you all so very much for the responses. Wonderful information.

Let me first say that there are no short term plans for dropping the
guide. I think we may pose a more formal survey of the same kind to a
wider audience to gather more feedback. It is clear from most responses
that guides (or our guide) in and of themselves to not provide much
value ... but when combined with search, or other unique information or
services begin to be of more use.

For those that were unsure, our guide currently has:
- All HD channels available on satellite, cable, and OTA ... and we're
starting to add FIOS-only channels to the mix
- All SD content can be shown as well on those digital channels
mentioned above
- Ability to configure only those channels you want
- Ability to customize the channel name (label) and channel number
- Ability to sort by priority, independent of name or channel number
- Searchability (find programs, stations, etc)

So let me throw out a few new ideas and see if this sounds interesting
to those subscribed, or if it would give those who aren't enough reason
to do so:

1) Ability to indicate "Favorite" movies or programs, which would drive
an alert via email of you favorites that are airing within the next two
weeks. For example, you could have an alert generated whenever a new
episode of "Lost" is coming up, etc.

2) Additional daily email product highlighting only "New" episodes or
movie premiers.

3) Ability to customize background fill-colors by HD/SD or Genre
(currently displayed as black for HD and gray for SD)

Jordan, for me it would be about keywords rather than just titles. I
watch a lot of mixed martial arts, so i'd want to be alerted of anything
with "king of the cage" "pride" "ufc" etc.

Shane,

1)......No interest from me.
2)......Absolutely no interest.
3)......See 1 and 2

Bottom line I could care less about programming from HDTV Mag. I am
interested in reviews, educational info and the many comments from a cross
section of members on products and technology.

Shane,

I'm going to agree with Hugh here in all categories. TitanTV already does
everything you have and have listed as an enhancement, with the exception of
email alerts. They do have a reminders area that accomplishes pretty much
the same thing. I use my STB for most of my searchs although it doesn't
tell me what is in HD. I pretty well already know what is going to be in HD
anyway. TitanTV gets me those answers.

Aboslutely....unless this is something you can add without extra work/money
why do it since most of the responses indicated a lukewarm response to the
guide anyway.

Shane,

I agree with the below comments, since I use TitanTV and subscribed to the
Guide only to do my bit for the cause.

The Tips list, however, is invaluable to me, as are the reviews and the
ongoing comments from our members.

Many thanks, again, for your unceasing efforts on behalf of all of us.

Best Regards,

Mike Malkin

Shane,

Although I responded that I do not use the guide, email alerts for favorite
programs particularly sports events would be a great feature for me.

Shane, I like all three ideas. Really... all three. I really like number
3 since I used to think I'd like to print the guide (a few days at a
time). I could never get it to print so that I could see (well) the HD
program text with the black fill/background. I'll admit that it's been a
few years since I tried and even then I didn't try all that hard at the
time.

Hmm ... something I could do with our data in about an hour.

And I don't have to stop there ... I could also make pages for other
genre's: Animated, Nature, Talk, Home & Garden, Education, etc.

Worthwhile?

No offense but I think the guide idea left the station a couple years ago,
when other folks became the defacto standard as a guide to HDTV programming.
It would take some considerable "out of the box" thinking and some
investment to become an "HDTV Guide" player again.

I say it makes more sense to beef up the technology opinions, reviews and
comparison angle. Here's an idea newer than a guide.. A running report
presenting expert consensus of "what's hot" by product type, done as a wiki
blog.

A "what is the best in class" according to the experts who subscribe to HDTV
Mag, is a more valuable property in the long run, way more than another
guide.

Thanks,
